Commencement Ceremony FAQ
There will not be a separate JWMI ceremony in 2025, so we encourage all graduates to attend the June 27th reception and June 28th commencement ceremony to celebrate their academic accomplishments together. JWMI graduates will receive a special medallion, stole and cord to wear with their regalia and have priority seating during the June 28th ceremony.
JWMI graduates may also participate in the September in-person commencement ceremony in Greenville, but we will not be holding a reception prior to this ceremony. If you are not located near a ceremony location, or unable to travel, you may participate in the September Virtual commencement ceremony.
Yes, you do need to wear a cap and gown for the June 28th ceremony. After you register for the commencement ceremony, you can order your cap and gown online through Jostens. Also, on the Josten’s website you should select Student Jack Welch Acessories to obtain your complimentary JWMI stole and cord. Order your cap and gown by the deadline (May 23) to avoid late fees.
Most graduates choose to wear business casual attire under their gown. All gowns will hit between the knees and mid-calf. To ensure you receive the most attractive photos while crossing the stage, we recommend that men wear long pants with dark colored dress shoes and women wear either pants or a skirt/dress with dark colored dress shoes.
Accessible guest seating areas will be available and are first come, first served. Please direct your guests to an arena usher for assistance. More information regarding accommodations will be provided in the graduating student newsletter. Graduates who require accommodations should contact commencement@strayer.edu to ensure coordination.
We will provide students with letters of invitation to send to their family members living abroad to document the purpose of their travel to the United States. After completing the commencement registration steps, you should Sumit an application for a Visa Letter of Invitation which can be found under the Guest Visa/Travel section. Please allow 5-7 business days for the Events Team to process your request. The letter(s) will be emailed to you once completed.
Diplomas are NOT given out at commencement ceremonies. Your diploma will be issued once all of your degree requirements have been completed and the Strayer University Records department has reviewed and approved your record for conferral. Once conferral is approved, your diploma will be mailed to your home address on file. To update your address on file, please visit iCampus and click on Account Settings, My Contact Info, Show Contact and Edit Contact Information.
