MARKET LEADERS LEND THEIR EXPERTISE TO BUILD CUSTOM DEGREE PROGRAMS AT STRAYER UNIVERSITY

Education should be personal—students should be able to easily connect with the courses and lessons. And education should be relevant, teaching skills that can be immediately applied to a career.

At Strayer, personalization and relevance are core parts of the learning experience. “We are committed to providing our students with courses and curricula based on real-world experiences,” says Dr. Andréa Backman, Provost and Chief Academic Officer at Strayer University. “So as we develop new degree programs, we look to experts of practice and market leaders, those who have achieved excellence in their fields, to inform the curricula.”

Strayer University partners with business leaders to develop courses of study based on their own learnings, knowledge and insights from their own successful careers. “This approach allows us to give our students the opportunity to learn from the best,” says Dr. Backman. “The leaders share directly with students, resulting in invaluable—and very powerful—lessons.”

“I’ve been blessed with the opportunities I’ve had in life and I’ve learned a lot of lessons that I believe are key to being successful,” says Joe Gibbs, four-time NASCAR Cup Series winner, three-time NFL championship winning coach and member of the Pro Football Hall of Fam. “But I’ve never had the chance to organize and share those lessons all in one place until now. Working with Strayer allowed me to bring together everything I’ve learned about building a winning team—how to select the right people, motivate them and teach them to work together.”

THE JOE GIBBS PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT PROGRAM WITH NFL HALL OF FAME COACH JOE GIBBS

As an avid football fan, Betsy Ledbetter knew about the success Coach Joe Gibbs achieved in the NFL and NASCAR. “I was intrigued,” she says. “I wanted to learn about his methods, his perspective on teams, and about finding your passion.” As a trainer for Verizon Leadership University and a graduate of Strayer’s Master of Education program, Betsy is in a unique position to share what she is learning in the program with others. “Linking your passion to your purpose is a core component of the program, and that is a lesson worth repeating.”

THE JACK WELCH MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE WITH 'CEO OF CEO’S' JACK WELCH

Ron Codario decided to pursue an executive MBA from JMWI because he wanted deeper and broader insight into business issues. “Jack teaches that leadership is the ability to accomplish positive outcomes through the commitment and cooperation of others,” says Codario, a medical director for Vindico Medical Education. “Leaders relentlessly upgrade their teams by recruiting and developing superb people, using every opportunity to evaluate, coach and build self-confidence.”

THE DIGITAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP MBA

Brittany Jones built her event planning business, Uncorked Occasions, from the ground up. “A year ago, I’d have said my greatest accomplishment was starting my own business before the age of 25,” she says. “But today, it is celebrating five years as an entrepreneur while pursuing a master’s degree that will help me take it even further.” With access to innovative leaders, products and technologies she is boosting digital skills “and accessing courses on my cell phone. A millennial entrepreneur like myself couldn’t ask anything else of a master’s degree program.”
