For April Hudson, campus dean for two of Strayer University’s Florida campuses, a master’s degree in education wasn’t enough. Now, Hudson is pursuing an MBA degree in digital entrepreneurship. To help her succeed, she’s counting on Strayer and its dedication to flexibility.

Flexibility Key to a Second Master’s

Hudson didn’t see the end of her first master’s degree as the end of her education. “I want to constantly learn and discover something new,” Hudson says. “And I wanted to do something different.” Hudson liked the creativity of the digital entrepreneurship program and its partnership with Cheddar, a leading media and entertainment company that makes online education accessible from any device.

But juggling full-time work with personal life and education can be a challenge. That’s why Hudson appreciates the Strayer program. “It’s so flexible,” she says. “I can do everything from my smartphone, tablet, Facebook, and the Blackboard app. I can work on the Metro, at the pool, hanging out with my dad while he watches TV, or while I’m waiting at the doctor’s office. It’s always with me.”

There’s a fringe benefit to this flexibility. “It doesn’t always feel like schoolwork when I do it on my phone!”

Still a Commitment

That’s not to say a master’s program, even a highly flexible one, isn’t a commitment. “Time management is a major focus,” Hudson says. “I’m balancing work, school, and my personal life. I manage my time as best as I possibly can, using my phone’s calendar, email, and a regular planner.”

The flexibility of the program allows Hudson to make progress at times and in ways a traditional program wouldn’t allow. But she’s aware she still needs to monitor what needs doing in all aspects of her life. “Students definitely have to look hard at everything in their lives and recognize when something has to give,” she advises.

The journey to a second master’s degree can be made even more manageable with a flexible program.  Hudson has learned this firsthand, as she is able to complete coursework at any time, any place. If her phone is with her, she’s ready to work.

For 125 years, Strayer University has helped working adults like Hudson earn the degrees employers seek – and has offered the most flexible ways to earn them. Why? Because it’s important to learn on your schedule, not ours. Regardless of how you learn, our on-campus and online degree programs bring you relevant content, the skills employers are looking for, and the leadership training you need to take your education from the classroom right to the boardroom.
